Sankaty Head Light

Sankaty Head Light

Siasconset · Massachusetts

Perched on Nantucket’s eastern bluffs, Sankaty Head Light has guided mariners since 1850. This striking red-and-white striped beacon stands as one of New England’s most photographed lighthouses. In 2007, the tower was dramatically moved 400 feet inland to save it from eroding cliffs—a testament to the community’s dedication to preserving this historic landmark.

While the lighthouse remains an active navigational aid, it is not open to public climbing. Visitors can admire the exterior and surrounding grounds year-round. Golden hour provides exceptional photography opportunities, with the Atlantic as backdrop.

Nearby, explore Sconset village’s rose-covered cottages, walk the bluff trails, or visit the Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum.
