Rising from the treacherous shoals of Nantucket Sound near Hyannis, Massachusetts, Bishop and Clerks Light was constructed in 1858 to warn mariners of the dangerous underwater ledges that had claimed numerous vessels. Named after a similar hazard off England’s coast, this spark plug-style lighthouse stood sentinel for over a century before being deactivated.

The lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, as it sits offshore on its original stone foundation. Best photography opportunities occur during golden hour from Hyannis Harbor boat tours or the ferry to Nantucket.

Nearby attractions include the JFK Hyannis Museum, Main Street shopping, and Cape Cod’s renowned beaches. The Kennedy Compound in Hyannisport draws history enthusiasts year-round.
