Standing sentinel at the entrance to Hyannis Harbor since 1816, Point Gammon Light is one of Cape Cod’s oldest surviving lighthouses. This compact stone tower, rising 70 feet above sea level on Great Island, guided mariners through treacherous waters for over a century before being decommissioned in 1858.
The lighthouse remains privately owned and is not open to the public, though it’s visible from excursion boats departing Hyannis Harbor. For photographers, golden hour from the water offers the most dramatic shots, with the weathered tower silhouetted against Cape Cod sunsets.
Nearby, visitors can explore downtown Hyannis, catch a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket, or visit the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum just minutes away.
