Chatham Light
Massachusetts
Standing sentinel over Cape Cod’s elbow since 1877, Chatham Light guides mariners through the treacherous Chatham Harbor entrance. This 48-foot cast-iron tower replaced earlier wooden structures that succumbed to erosion. Originally one of twin lights, its sister was relocated to Nauset Beach in 1923.
While the active Coast Guard station remains closed to public climbing, the lighthouse grounds offer spectacular views of the Atlantic and Monomoy Island. Photographers favor golden hour, when warm light illuminates the white tower against dramatic seascapes. Storm season delivers powerful wave action for dramatic shots.
Nearby, explore Chatham Fish Pier’s daily catch auctions, stroll Main Street’s boutiques, or take a seal-watching cruise to Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge.
