Forty Mile Point Light stands on the Lake Huron shore in Rogers Township, Presque Isle County, Michigan. Built in 1897 to fill a dangerous gap between Cheboygan and Presque Isle, this square brick tower guided mariners through treacherous waters where numerous shipwrecks occurred. The lighthouse remains an active navigational aid today. While the tower is not open to the public for climbing, the surrounding park offers excellent views of the structure and shoreline. Photographers will find the best light at sunrise, when Lake Huron glows behind the tower. Nearby, visitors can explore the remnants of the wooden steamer Joseph S. Fay on the beach, Rockport State Recreation Area, and the historic Presque Isle lighthouses just to the south.
