Bodkin Island Light

Standing on the Patapsco River in Maryland, Bodkin Island Light was built in 1822 to guide vessels navigating the upper Chesapeake Bay. One of the earliest lighthouses in the region, it served mariners for decades before being deactivated. The light is no longer active and is not open to the public, so visitors cannot climb the tower. Its remote waterside setting makes it a compelling subject for photographers, with golden hour and early morning light offering the best conditions, especially from the water. Nearby attractions include Fort Smallwood Park, the Baltimore Inner Harbor, and the scenic shores of the Chesapeake Bay — all within easy driving distance for a full day of exploration.
