Built in 1848, Greenbury Point Light was one of the earliest lighthouses guiding mariners into the Severn River and Annapolis Harbor. This historic screwpile-style light marked the shoals near Greenbury Point, serving as a critical navigational aid for Chesapeake Bay traffic. The lighthouse is no longer active and is not open to the public, so climbing is not available. The best photography opportunities come during golden hour, when the warm light plays beautifully against the waterfront setting. Nearby, visitors can explore the U.S. Naval Academy, downtown Annapolis’s charming waterfront, and the Chesapeake Bay shoreline. History buffs will appreciate the area’s rich maritime heritage and colonial-era architecture.
