Standing guard over the Chesapeake Bay since 1825, Thomas Point Shoal Light is the last unaltered screw-pile lighthouse on its original foundation in the United States — a distinction that earned it National Historic Landmark status. Located just south of Annapolis, Maryland, this hexagonal cottage-style lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation operated by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The lighthouse is not open to the public for climbing or tours. The best way to view it is by boat, with golden hour on calm summer evenings offering ideal photography conditions as the bay reflects warm light against the white clapboard structure.
