Built in 1871 at the mouth of Oak Orchard Creek on Lake Ontario’s southern shore, this modest lighthouse guided mariners through treacherous waters for decades. The tower served as a critical navigational aid for vessels entering the creek, which was once a busy commercial waterway. Now deactivated, the lighthouse stands as a quiet reminder of New York’s maritime heritage along the Great Lakes.
The light is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it can be viewed and photographed from nearby areas. Golden hour provides the best lighting, particularly at sunset with Lake Ontario as a backdrop. Visitors can explore Oak Orchard Harbor, enjoy fishing along the creek, and visit nearby Point Breeze and the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge.
