Thirty Mile Point Light

Standing guard over Lake Ontario’s southern shore since 1876, Thirty Mile Point Light marks a crucial navigational point thirty miles east of the Niagara River’s mouth. Built of hand-cut limestone, the square tower and attached keeper’s dwelling reflect classic Great Lakes lighthouse architecture. The light remains active under Coast Guard operation, guiding vessels through notoriously treacherous waters where dozens of shipwrecks rest offshore.

The lighthouse is not open to public climbing, but the surrounding Golden Hill State Park offers excellent vantage points. Sunset shoots from the lakeside trail produce the best photography, particularly in autumn when warm light catches the limestone. Nearby, visitors can explore hiking trails, campgrounds, and Lake Ontario’s rugged shoreline.
