Standing on the shores of Braddock Bay, New York, this striking lighthouse was built in 1896 to guide vessels along Lake Ontario’s southern coast. Decommissioned and no longer active, the tower remains a compelling piece of Great Lakes maritime heritage. The lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it makes an excellent subject for photography — golden hour on calm evenings produces stunning reflections off the bay. Spring and fall migrations draw birders to nearby Braddock Bay Wildlife Management Area, one of the top raptor observation sites in the Northeast. The surrounding area also offers kayaking, fishing, and easy access to the Lake Ontario shoreline.
