East Rigolets Light
Rigolets · Louisiana
Standing in the waters of Lake Borgne, Louisiana, East Rigolets Light has marked the passage between Lake Borgne and Lake Pontchartrain since 1833, making it one of the oldest lighthouse sites on the Gulf Coast. The screw-pile structure guided mariners through the narrow Rigolets strait for over a century before being deactivated. Today the lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it remains a striking sight from the water. Golden hour and early morning offer the best photography conditions, with dramatic reflections off the lake. Nearby, visitors can explore Fort Pike State Historic Site, the Rigolets Pass, and the fishing communities along Chef Menteur Highway.
