Built in 1861 on St. Joseph Island, Mississippi, this historic lighthouse served as a vital navigational aid along the Gulf Coast during the Civil War era. Its strategic location made it a point of interest during the conflict, and the light was extinguished during wartime before eventually being decommissioned.

Though no longer active, the lighthouse remains a striking landmark against the island’s coastal landscape. The tower is not open to the public, so visitors cannot climb it. The best photography opportunities come during golden hour, when warm light illuminates the weathered structure against Gulf sunsets.
