Standing at the mouth of the Savannah River, Cockspur Island Light has guided mariners since 1849. This small but resilient lighthouse survived Civil War bombardment during the Battle of Fort Pulaski, bearing scars that remain visible today. Its compact design and scenic tidal marsh setting make it one of Georgia’s most photographed landmarks.

The lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it’s easily viewed from the shores of Fort Pulaski National Monument. Low tide allows closer approaches on foot. Golden hour and early morning offer the best photography conditions, with dramatic marsh reflections.
