West Rigolets Light

West Rigolets Light

Rigolets · Louisiana

Standing in the waters of Lake Borgne, Louisiana, the West Rigolets Light was built in 1854 to guide vessels navigating the narrow Rigolets strait connecting Lake Borgne to Lake Pontchartrain. This screw-pile lighthouse served as a critical navigation aid along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway for over a century before being deactivated. Its remote, water-bound location makes it notable among Louisiana’s few surviving historic lighthouses. The light is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it can be viewed by boat. Golden hour provides the best photography conditions, with dramatic lake reflections at sunset. Nearby attractions include Fort Pike State Historic Site and the Rigolets Pass fishing areas along Highway 90.
