Savannah Light

Standing along the Savannah River in Georgia, the Savannah Light was constructed in 1964 to guide commercial shipping traffic into one of the South’s busiest ports. The steel-skeleton tower replaced earlier navigational aids that had served the river channel for over a century. Now decommissioned, the light is no longer active and is closed to the public — visitors cannot climb the structure. Its industrial design and riverside setting make it a compelling photography subject, with golden hour and early morning fog producing the most dramatic shots. Nearby, visitors can explore Savannah’s renowned Historic District, Factors Walk along the riverfront, Fort Pulaski National Monument, and Tybee Island, home to Georgia’s oldest and tallest lighthouse.
