Built in 1867 in Crisfield, Maryland, Somers Cove Light once guided vessels through the waters of Tangier Sound near the mouth of the Little Annemessex River. The lighthouse served as a critical navigational aid for the busy crabbing and oystering fleets that made Crisfield the “Seafood Capital of the World.” Now deactivated, the light is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it remains a picturesque landmark visible from the Crisfield waterfront. Golden hour and early morning offer the best photography conditions, with dramatic reflections off the calm harbor waters. Nearby, visitors can explore Janes Island State Park, the J. Millard Tawes Museum, and catch the ferry to Smith Island.
