Perched on the rocky shores of Southport, Maine, Hendricks Head Light has guided mariners since 1829. This historic lighthouse features a classic white tower that has become an iconic symbol of Maine’s rugged coastline. The station gained fame through a legendary 19th-century rescue story involving a shipwrecked infant saved during a fierce storm.
Though the lighthouse is no longer active and remains closed to public access, visitors can admire its picturesque setting from the water or nearby vantage points. Golden hour provides optimal photography conditions, with sunset casting warm light across the weathered structure.
While visiting, explore nearby Boothbay Harbor’s charming shops and restaurants, or venture to the Maine State Aquarium just minutes away.
