Portage Lake Light stands on the shores of Portage Lake in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, guiding ships through the Keweenaw Waterway since its construction in 1891. The lighthouse served as a critical navigational aid for vessels transporting copper during the region’s mining boom. Now deactivated, the light is no longer in service and is not open to the public, so visitors cannot climb the tower.
