Manistee Pierhead Lights

Standing guard at the entrance to the Manistee River Channel since 1875, the Manistee Pierhead Lights are among Michigan’s most photographed beacons. The active light station features a striking red tower connected to a fog signal building by an elevated catwalk — a classic Great Lakes design. While the lighthouse is not open to the public for climbing, visitors can walk the pier for excellent close-up views. Golden hour and sunset offer the best photography, with Lake Michigan providing a dramatic backdrop. Nearby, explore downtown Manistee’s charming Victorian architecture, the Manistee Riverwalk, or the North Country Trail. The Manistee National Forest and Orchard Beach State Park are minutes away, making this an ideal Lake Michigan coastal stop.
