Frankfort Light

Standing guard over Frankfort Harbor since 1873, the Frankfort North Breakwater Light is one of Lake Michigan’s most photographed beacons. The original wooden structure was replaced multiple times, with the current steel tower and its distinctive rectangular fog signal building dating to the early 20th century. Its bold silhouette against Lake Michigan sunsets has made it an iconic symbol of Benzie County.

The lighthouse is not open to the public, but visitors can walk the breakwater for excellent close-up views. Golden hour and winter ice formations offer the best photography opportunities. Nearby, explore Elberta’s historic waterfront, Point Betsie Lighthouse, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, all within a short drive.
