Ile Aux Galets Light
Lake Michigan · Michigan
Standing guard over the Straits of Mackinac since 1850, Ile Aux Galets Light (also called Skillagalee Light) rises from a remote, rocky island in Emmet County, Michigan. This active lighthouse has guided mariners through one of the Great Lakes’ busiest waterways for over 175 years. The island’s isolation and lack of a dock mean the light is not open to the public, but it remains a striking sight from the water. Charter boats and Mackinac Island ferries offer excellent vantage points, with golden-hour summer evenings providing the best photography conditions. Nearby, visitors can explore Mackinaw City, Colonial Michilimackinac, and the iconic Mackinac Bridge — making this a must-see corner of northern Michigan.
