Rising from a remote island in the Straits of Mackinac, St. Helena Island Light has guided mariners since 1873. The brick tower and attached keeper’s dwelling were automated in 1922, and the light remains active today. The Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association has led restoration efforts, helping preserve this picturesque sentinel.

The lighthouse is not open to the public, though the island can be viewed by boat from nearby waters. Its isolated setting against Lake Michigan makes for striking photography, especially during golden hour on calm summer evenings.

Visitors to the area can explore Mackinaw City, take the ferry to Mackinac Island, or visit the neighboring lighthouses dotting the Straits of Mackinac.
