Standing on the northern tip of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula in Wawatam Township, Emmet County, McGulpin Point Light has guided mariners through the Straits of Mackinac since 1869. This historic cream-brick tower features an octagonal design that distinguishes it from other Great Lakes lighthouses. Still an active navigational aid, the lighthouse is not open to the public for climbing, though the surrounding grounds offer excellent views of the Mackinac Bridge and passing freighters.

Golden hour and sunset provide the best photography opportunities, with the bridge as a dramatic backdrop. Nearby attractions include Colonial Michilimackinac, Mackinaw City’s shops and ferry docks to Mackinac Island, and Headlands International Dark Sky Park for world-class stargazing.
