Kaunakakai Range Front Light

Built in 1912, the Kaunakakai Range Front Light has guided vessels into Kaunakakai Harbor on Molokai’s south shore for over a century. It originally worked in tandem with a rear range light, helping ships align their approach through the narrow channel. The light remains active today, maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard, making it one of Hawaii’s longest-serving navigational aids.

The lighthouse is not open to the public, but it can be viewed and photographed from Kaunakakai Wharf. Golden hour provides the best light, with the tower silhouetted against Lanai across the channel. Nearby, visitors can explore Kaunakakai town, Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove, and the calm beaches along Molokai’s southern coast.
