Perched on the rugged southwestern coast of Lanai, Kaumalapau Light has guided vessels approaching the island’s primary harbor since its construction. The modest concrete tower served commercial shipping operations, particularly during Lanai’s pineapple plantation era when fruit was loaded onto barges below. Now decommissioned, the light stands as a quiet relic of the island’s agricultural past.

The lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but photographers can capture striking images from nearby vantage points along the coastal cliffs. Late afternoon light produces the best results against the dramatic sea backdrop.
