Moloka’i Light
Perched on the rugged sea cliffs of Kalaupapa Peninsula, Moloka’i Light has guided mariners since 1909. Commissioned by the U.S. Bureau of Lighthouses, it replaced an earlier beacon to improve navigation along Molokai’s treacherous north shore. The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation under U.S. Coast Guard operation.
The tower is not open to public access, but visitors can view it from the Kalaupapa National Historical Park overlook along the Pālāʻau State Park trail. Golden hour and early morning offer the best photography conditions, with dramatic cliff backdrops and ocean spray. Nearby, the Kalaupapa settlement provides a profound historical experience, accessible by mule ride, hiking trail, or small aircraft.
