Beachside State Recreation Site
Oregon (Central Coast County)
I’ll write this based on my knowledge of Beachside State Recreation Site. It’s a well-known spot on the central Oregon coast near Waldport.
Beachside State Recreation Site
Tucked along Highway 101 between Waldport and Yachats on Oregon’s central coast, Beachside State Recreation Site offers one of the few campgrounds where you can fall asleep to the sound of waves just steps from your tent. A short trail through coastal shore pine leads directly to a wide, sandy beach stretching in both directions — perfect for beachcombing, kite flying, and watching spectacular Pacific sunsets.
The campground sits alongside Beachside Creek, which winds through the site before emptying into the ocean. This creek draws curious kids and wildlife alike, and during fall months, you may spot salmon making their way upstream. The sites are relatively sheltered by vegetation, offering a surprising sense of privacy for a coastal park.
Campers will find both tent and RV-friendly sites with electric hookups, along with flush restrooms and hot showers — a welcome comfort after a day in the salt air. The campground typically operates from mid-March through October, and summer weekends fill fast, so reservations are strongly recommended.
Beyond the beach, the location is ideal for day trips. Yachats, the “Gem of the Oregon Coast,” sits just minutes south, and the tide pools at Cape Perpetua are a short drive away. Whale watching peaks in December and March during gray whale migrations.
Visit in September for warm days, thinner crowds, and some of the coast’s clearest skies. Beachside rewards those looking for a simple, unhurried stretch of Oregon shoreline without the tourist bustle.
