Rockland Lake State Park

Perched on the western edge of the Hudson Highlands in Palisades County, Rockland Lake State Park has drawn visitors to its 1,080 acres since opening in 1958. The park is built around its namesake — a spring-fed lake that once supplied ice to New York City in the 19th century. The lake itself is the main draw. A 3.2-mile paved path loops the shoreline, making it one of the best spots in the lower Hudson Valley for walking, jogging, and cycling on flat, accessible terrain. Beyond the lake, the park connects to the Long Path trail system and sits adjacent to Hook Mountain State Park, opening up miles of ridge hiking with panoramic views of the Hudson River and Westchester County across the water. Picnic areas are spread generously throughout, and the park maintains facilities for volleyball, basketball, and softball.
