Standing at the eastern shore of the Tappan Zee crossing in Sleepy Hollow, New York, the Tarrytown Light has guided Hudson River traffic since 1883. This cast-iron sparkplug-style lighthouse is one of the last remaining examples of its kind on the Hudson. Decommissioned and no longer active, it sits on a concrete pier just offshore. The lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it makes a striking photography subject — golden hour and autumn foliage provide the best backdrops. Nearby, visitors can explore Kykuit (the Rockefeller estate), Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, and the Tarrytown waterfront trail, making this a rewarding stop for history and lighthouse enthusiasts alike.
