Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor stretches 12 miles along Oregon’s southernmost coastline between Brookings and Gold Beach, delivering what many consider the most dramatic coastal scenery in the entire Pacific Northwest. This linear park follows US-101 with more than a dozen named viewpoints, each revealing a different composition of sea stacks, natural rock arches, and old-growth Sitka spruce clinging to sheer cliffs above turquoise coves.

The corridor’s crown jewels include Natural Bridges, where ocean waves surge through massive rock archways visible from an easy viewpoint trail, and Secret Beach, accessed by a short but steep path down to a secluded stretch of sand framed by towering rock formations. The Oregon Coast Trail threads through the entire corridor, with individual segments ranging from quick quarter-mile viewpoint walks to more challenging cliff-hugging stretches through dense coastal forest.

Whale watching is excellent from the higher viewpoints during gray whale migration (December through June), and the offshore rocks host colonies of seabirds and harbor seals. Wildflowers blanket the headlands from April through July.

No camping facilities exist within the corridor itself, but Harris Beach State Park sits just south near Brookings with full-hookup and tent sites, making it an ideal base camp.

Visit between May and October for the driest weather and clearest views, though winter storms bring their own raw spectacle. Arrive early on summer mornings — the most popular pullouts fill quickly, and fog typically burns off by midday to reveal the best light for photography.
