Bullards Beach State Park
Oregon (South Coast County)
Bullards Beach State Park sits along Oregon’s southern coast near Bandon, where the Coquille River meets the Pacific Ocean. The park sprawls across a striking landscape of windswept dunes, coastal forest, and wide sandy beach — a combination that makes it one of the most versatile stops on the South Coast.
The centerpiece is the Coquille River Lighthouse, a photogenic 1896 structure perched at the river’s mouth. It’s an easy walk from the parking area and especially rewarding at sunset, when the light hits the weathered tower against crashing surf.
Camping here is excellent. The park offers 185 full-hookup sites sheltered among shore pines, plus a horse camp and yurts. Sites are well-spaced and protected from coastal wind — a real advantage over more exposed campgrounds nearby. Reservations are smart for summer months.
Beyond camping, Bullards Beach delivers on activities: horseback riding along the beach, cycling the paved park road, fishing for perch in the surf or salmon and steelhead in the Coquille, and beachcombing for agates after winter storms. Birders will find the estuary productive, with shorebirds and raptors year-round.
Best time to visit: Late June through September for dry weather and the longest beach days. Winter brings dramatic storms and fewer crowds — ideal if you’re after solitude and driftwood-strewn scenery.
Expect a park that rewards lingering. Between the lighthouse, the river, and miles of uncrowded beach, Bullards Beach quietly outperforms flashier Oregon Coast destinations.
