Tibbetts Point Lighthouse stands at the confluence of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River in Cape Vincent, New York. Built in 1827, it is one of the oldest lighthouses on the Great Lakes. The original stone tower was replaced in 1854 with the current stucco-over-stone structure. Still an active navigational aid, the light marks a critical turning point for vessels entering the St. Lawrence Seaway. The lighthouse is not open to the public for climbing, though the grounds are accessible and a hostel once operated in the keeper’s house. Sunset offers the best photography, with dramatic light over the water. Nearby, visitors can explore Cape Vincent’s ferry to Wolfe Island and the Thousand Islands region.
