Built in 1854, Redfish Bar Light was one of the earliest screw-pile lighthouses in the Gulf of Mexico, guiding vessels through the treacherous shallow waters of Galveston Bay. The lighthouse marked the dangerous Redfish Bar, a submerged sandbar that posed a constant threat to maritime traffic. It endured hurricanes and shifting sands throughout its service before being deactivated.

The structure is no longer standing and is not open to the public or available for climbing. Its historical site remains notable for its role in Texas maritime heritage. The best photography opportunities come at golden hour along the Galveston Bay shoreline. Nearby attractions include the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa, Galveston Island State Park, and the Strand Historic District.
