Standing at the mouth of Delaware Bay near Lewes, Delaware, this striking caisson lighthouse was built in 1908 to guide vessels past the stone breakwater of the National Harbor of Refuge. Its distinctive brown cylindrical tower rises from a concrete-filled caisson anchored in open water, making it one of the most photographed landmarks along the Delaware coast. The light remains active and is maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard, though it is not open to the public.
