Standing at the entrance to Delaware Bay near Lewes, Delaware, this cast-iron caisson lighthouse was built in 1885 to guide vessels past the Delaware Breakwater. Its distinctive brown cylindrical tower rises from a concrete foundation surrounded by water, making it one of the most photogenic lighthouses on the Mid-Atlantic coast. Now deactivated, the light is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it remains a beloved landmark visible from shore and by boat.
