Gull Rocks Light

Gull Rocks Light

Narragansett Bay · Rhode Island

Newport, Rhode Island

Rising from the rocky shores of Narragansett Bay, Gull Rocks Light has guided mariners since 1887. This cast-iron lighthouse stands on a dangerous cluster of rocks off Newport’s eastern passage, marking hazards that claimed numerous vessels before its construction.

The lighthouse was decommissioned and is no longer active. While not open to the public and inaccessible for climbing, it remains a striking subject for photographers—best captured during golden hour from Sachuset Point or by boat tour.

Nearby, visitors can explore the famous Cliff Walk, historic Bellevue Avenue mansions, and Fort Adams State Park. Newport’s vibrant waterfront offers excellent dining and sailing opportunities just minutes away.
