Standing on the bluffs of Presque Isle Bay since 1818, Erie Land Light is one of the oldest lighthouse sites on the Great Lakes. The current sandstone tower — the third built on this location — dates to 1867 and served mariners navigating Lake Erie’s treacherous waters until it was deactivated. Though no longer an active aid to navigation and closed to public access, the lighthouse remains a striking landmark worth visiting from the outside. Golden hour provides the best photography, with warm light catching the weathered stone against Lake Erie’s horizon. Nearby, Presque Isle State Park offers beaches and hiking, while downtown Erie features the Erie Maritime Museum and the reconstructed US Brig Niagara.
