Standing guard at the entrance to Conneaut Harbor on Lake Erie, this Art Deco-style lighthouse was built in 1936 to guide vessels into one of Ohio’s busiest coal-shipping ports. The concrete tower rises from the western breakwater, its automated light still active today, marking the channel for commercial and recreational boaters alike.

The lighthouse is not open to the public, as it sits at the end of a breakwater that can be hazardous in rough weather. Photographers find the best light at sunrise, when the tower catches golden hues against the lake. Nearby, visitors can explore Conneaut Township Park’s sandy beach, the D-Day Conneaut reenactment site, and excellent walleye fishing along the harbor.
