Barcelona Light
Lake Erie · New York
Barcelona Light stands on the shores of Lake Erie in Westfield, New York, first lit in 1829. It holds the distinction of being one of the oldest lighthouses on the Great Lakes and was notably among the first to be powered by natural gas, drawn from a nearby gas spring. Decommissioned and no longer active, the lighthouse is not open to the public, so visitors cannot climb the tower. However, the exterior and surrounding shoreline make for compelling photography, particularly during golden hour when the setting sun over Lake Erie bathes the stone tower in warm light. Nearby, visitors can explore the charming village of Westfield, known for its Concord grape heritage, local wineries along the Lake Erie Wine Trail, and Barcelona Harbor.
