Dumpling Rocks Light
Buzzards Bay · Massachusetts
Standing sentinel over Buzzards Bay since 1829, Dumpling Rocks Light marks the treacherous rocky outcropping near Dartmouth, Massachusetts. This compact stone tower guided mariners through the bay’s busy shipping lanes for over a century before being deactivated. Though modest in stature, the lighthouse holds historical significance as one of the region’s earliest navigational aids.
Visitor Access: The lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed. It sits on a small rocky island accessible only by private boat.
Photography: Best captured during golden hour from the water or nearby shoreline. Fall offers dramatic skies and fewer boats.
Nearby Attractions: New Bedford Whaling Museum, Padanaram Harbor, and the charming village of Dartmouth offer excellent day-trip options.
