Standing at the western tip of Coney Island since 1890, this modest iron tower replaced an earlier beacon that guided ships through the busy Gravesend Bay approach to New York Harbor. Though small compared to coastal giants, the Coney Island Light holds distinction as one of the few operational lighthouses within New York City limits, still serving as an active navigational aid under Coast Guard maintenance.

The lighthouse is not open to the public, but visitors can view and photograph it from the nearby boardwalk. Golden hour light from the west makes sunset the ideal time for photography.
