Romer Shoal Light stands in Lower New York Bay off the New Jersey coast, marking a critical navigation point since 1838. One of the oldest lighthouses in the region, it was built to warn mariners of the dangerous Romer Shoal and guide vessels safely into New York Harbor. The caisson-style tower remains an active aid to navigation maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it’s a popular subject for photographers and boat tours. Golden hour and clear winter days offer the best shooting conditions.
