Ellisville Harbor State Park sits on 97 acres along the western shore of Cape Cod Bay in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, where a tidal salt marsh meets the open Atlantic. The park’s centerpiece is Ellisville Harbor itself — a small, protected inlet fed by a barrier beach that shifts with every nor’easter, making the landscape feel different with each visit.
The beach here is the main draw. A roughly half-mile walk through coastal woodland and marsh opens onto a wide, pebbly shoreline with views stretching across Cape Cod Bay toward Provincetown. Unlike the manicured town beaches nearby, Ellisville feels wilder and less trafficked — a genuine reward for the short hike in. Low tide exposes extensive tidal flats ideal for exploring tide pools, and the harbor mouth attracts shorebirds year-round, making it a reliable birding spot. Harbor seals haul out on the sandbars during the colder months, often visible from the beach without binoculars.
Hiking trails wind through pitch pine and scrub oak uplands before descending into the salt marsh, offering a compact but varied landscape. Fishing is popular along the shoreline and near the harbor inlet, particularly for striped bass during their spring and fall migrations. There is no developed camping at Ellisville Harbor, though nearby Myles Standish State Forest offers extensive campground options less than 20 minutes away.
Visit between late May and early October for swimming and beach access, or come in November through March for seal watching. Expect no facilities beyond a small parking area — bring water and pack out what you carry in.
