Unlike the busier beach parks nearby, Holts Landing draws visitors who want to slow down — paddle a kayak through tidal marshes, cast a line from the fishing pier, or walk the trails that wind through maritime forest and open meadow.

The park’s real draw is its water access. A public boat ramp puts you directly on the Indian River Bay, making it a favorite launch point for crabbing, clamming, and fishing for flounder and striped bass. The fishing pier extends over the bay and is popular with families — no boat required, just a rod and some patience. Windsurfing and kiteboarding pick up here too, thanks to the bay’s consistent breezes and shallow, forgiving waters.

On land, a disc golf course threads through the woods, and several short trails are well-suited for birding. The park sits along the Atlantic Flyway, so spring and fall migrations bring warblers, shorebirds, and raptors through in impressive numbers. Picnic pavilions and open grassy areas make it easy to settle in for the day.

Summer and early fall are the busiest seasons, when the bay is warm enough for paddling and the fishing is at its peak. But even in the off-season, Holts Landing stays worth the visit — quieter, uncrowded, and close to the salt air that makes coastal Delaware hard to leave.
