Built in 1855, Seven Foot Knoll Light is the oldest screw-pile lighthouse surviving in Maryland. Originally stationed on a shoal at the mouth of the Patapsco River to guide ships into Baltimore Harbor, it was relocated in 1988 to Pier 5 in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, where it now serves as a maritime museum piece. The cast-iron caisson structure is notable for its distinctive red exterior and hexagonal design. The lighthouse is no longer active and is not open for climbing. For the best photography, visit during golden hour when the warm light complements its red walls against the harbor backdrop.
