Craighill Channel Upper RangeFront Light
Chesapeake Bay · Maryland
Standing at the edge of Chesapeake Bay in Edgemere, Maryland, this screwpile lighthouse has guided mariners through the Craighill Channel since 1886. Built to work in tandem with its rear range light, the pair helped vessels navigate one of the bay’s most critical shipping lanes leading to Baltimore Harbor.
The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard. It is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it can be viewed and photographed from the water. Golden hour and early morning offer the best light for photography, with the bay providing dramatic backdrops.
Nearby attractions include Fort Howard Park, North Point State Park, and the historic community of Sparrows Point.
