Standing sentinel in the Saint Lawrence River near Alexandria Bay, New York, Sunken Rock Light has guided mariners through the Thousand Islands since 1847. This compact stone tower was built to mark a dangerous submerged rock shelf that threatened vessels navigating the narrow channel. Its sturdy construction has withstood nearly two centuries of ice, wind, and current.

The light remains active as a navigational aid but is not open to the public. Best photographed from the water during golden hour, it’s particularly striking in autumn when surrounded by fall foliage.
