Grass Point State Park
New York (Thousand Islands County)
Tucked along the shores of the St. Lawrence River in New York’s Thousand Islands region, Grass Point State Park offers 114 acres of waterfront access to one of the most stunning freshwater archipelagos in North America. Established in 1926, this park has served nearly a century of visitors drawn to the river’s emerald channels and the scattered granite islands that define the landscape.
Grass Point is a boater’s park at heart. Its launch ramp provides direct access to the St. Lawrence, making it a natural base camp for exploring the Thousand Islands by water. Anglers come for smallmouth bass, northern pike, and walleye — the river here is among the best freshwater fishing in the Northeast. Back on land, the park’s shoreline trails and picnic areas face west across the water, delivering reliably good sunsets over the island-dotted horizon.
The park sits in Jefferson County, close to the town of Alexandria Bay, which means supplies, restaurants, and boat tours are all within a short drive. Boldt Castle and the Thousand Islands Bridge are nearby landmarks worth a day trip.
Summer — late June through August — is prime season, when the river is warm enough for swimming and the islands are fully green. September brings quieter days, cooler water, and fall color beginning to creep across the shoreline maples.
Grass Point won’t overwhelm you with size or crowds. What it will do is put you right on the river, which is exactly the point.
