Rising above the bluffs of Richmond in southeastern Staten Island, the Staten Island Light has guided ships through the Princes Bay channel since 1912. This octagonal concrete tower replaced an earlier wooden structure and remains an active aid to navigation maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard. Its distinctive yellow-brick daymark makes it easily recognizable against the surrounding residential neighborhood.
The lighthouse is not open to the public, but photographers can capture striking shots from nearby streets, particularly during golden hour when the tower glows warmly against the sky. The surrounding neighborhood offers a quiet, historic charm. Nearby, Conference House Park provides waterfront trails and colonial history, while the Staten Island Greenbelt offers miles of scenic hiking just a short drive away.
